The cliffs around Keyhole Canyon

The cliffs around Keyhole Canyon

Keyhole Canyon has long been a significant location for Native American cultures, particularly the Southern Paiute and Ancestral Puebloans. The canyon contains numerous petroglyphs etched into its rocks, dating back thousands of years. These carvings often depict animals, human figures, and abstract designs, reflecting spiritual beliefs, hunting rituals, and daily life. For those interested in rock art, it is an interesting site to visit and requires just a very short walk.

For canyoneers, the smooth granite walled canyon is an excellent short outing. I always hate to say something is beginner-friendly. Someone inevitably lets me know they got in way over their heads, and what I called beginner-friendly was most certainly not! That being said, I think this is an excellent beginner canyon to help teach people to canyoneer. You should have basic rope skills before coming to do the canyon, but it is a pretty straightforward place to work on and develop skills.
