Just northwest of the town of Green River, near the watermelon fields the area is famous for, is Coal Canyon and a very interesting rock art site. The canyon sits at the transition zone between the lower elevation desert and the higher elevation Book Cliffs beyond. I imagine ancient peoples travelled most of the canyons along this part of the Book Cliffs as part of their seasonal transitions, following both moderate temperatures and game as the seasons dictated.
The panel surprised me in its size and complexity. At a confluence of canyons, it was clearly an important place to early visitors and is a fairly large site with a few smaller sites nearby.

View west from near the trailhead. The Book Cliffs
Part of the main panel at the trailhead.
One of the dispersed smaller panels.
I am drawn to the simpler panels. This was one of my favorites at the site.
Notice the one upside down sheep. Fascinating.
The last panel I found. Snake like creature on the bottom of the panel
A big part of the main panel.

Amazing figure at the main panel
