This is one of the premier non-technical slot hikes in Escalante, second only to Peekaboo and Spooky/Brimstone in my mind. The slot sections, in Wingate, are stunning. Even the non-slot portions of the hike offer great views and are enjoyable.
What is the catch? Though often done as a day hike, this is a very long day hike. The map ballparks it about about 17 miles, though when it was all said and done, my GPS put it at about 20 with all the twists and bends. This is well suited to fit, experienced hikers wanting to do a long day. For those less motivated, this makes a pleasant two day backpack, though you will need to get through Little Death Hollow and to Horse Canyon for reliable/clean water. A few pools may be available in Little Death Hollow, but they were very putrid when I visited.
Also note, this canyon has a large drainage, and can change with floods. As of 2012, it was remarkably easy to descend. A few boulder obstacles were easy to scramble under, with only one ankle deep wade. After heavy rains, there could quite a bit of water in the last section of slot, and some of the boulders may require climbing over rather than under. Still, nothing a competent group should have difficulty with. Do-able in the winter if it hasn't rained recently.
Finally, some groups may want to wander down and back up the same way. If going all the way to Horse, it is only slightly shorter to return via Little Death Hollow instead of completing the loop. I would recommend completing the loop.
