The log fence and overhangs with pictographs

The log fence and overhangs with pictographs

One of the more unique sites I have visited, Moab Grotto is a fascinating place. The cavern itself is at the end of a short section of canyon, about 20 feet deep with a small pool at its head. On the overhanging walls of the cavern are dozens of pictographs. The Moab Grotto is a place that surely ancient peoples would visit and hang out in on hot summer days. The smoke staining on the walls also indicates this was probably a place they visit in the winter and cooler times of the year. The area around the grotto is wide open and gentle terrain. Perhaps this was a favorite area for hunting?

En route to the grotto, and very near the grotto, is an area of large overhangs. These overhangs also have ancient looking pictographs. It would be fascinating to know the history of the artists and visitors to the area.
