1 trip U-Turn Canyon - Arches National Park
Date: 11/05/2024
Group of 2 ran it for the first time on 11/1 in 2 hrs 15 mins. Ran it again on 11/5 in 1 hr 35 mins car to car. R1: used a 30m rope lots of slack. Anchor off the big on the right LDC is solid. There is a significant crack that the rope ends up falling into that causes a drag when pulling the rope. Avoid by pulling to either side if possible. R2: 30m rope again, plenty of slack. Lots of rope grooves to be aware of on the pull, but nothing to be super concerned about. Solid anchor off a big rock. R3: 60m rope used - 30m is not sufficient (about 10-15ft short). Solid anchor (maybe bolted? Can’t remember) off a waco on the left side LDC. R4: 60m rope, solid anchor off a boulder on the left LDC. Be careful of your walk over to avoid stepping on crypto. Easy hike out, as others have said, stick to the wall/shelf to the right instead of going into the wash.

Super cool approach with 3rd class scramble, gorgeous views at the top of the mesa. All bolted rappels. All but the last rappel are sloped slick rock. Last rappel is heady - just over 100’. * Use 200’ for all raps, add the 100’ on the last rap

3rd class scramble to the top of the mesa, incredible views at the top. Would be tough on a hot summer day. Rappels were straightforward. * all bolts except one natural hueco anchor. * First two raps use 100’. * Last two raps use 200’
