Fallen Roof Granary is one of the more photographed ruins on Cedar Mesa. Its image is often seen in calendars and photos, and for good reason, the ruin and aspect make it very photogenic and scenic. The lighting on the ruin can be really dramatic. In addition to Fallen Roof, Road Canyon contains the Seven Kivas Ruin and several other fantastic ruins. This is one of my favorite hikes on Cedar Mesa, both for the ruins, as well as the views from the canyon rim. The lower trailhead, in particular, offers excellent primitive camping.
The hike can be done two ways. First, and recommended, is to visit the two sections of canyon that have ruins on separate short hikes. Each hike will take 2-3 hours, and no car shuttle is needed. The second option, only recommended if you have 2 vehicles, is to walk from the upper trailhead to the lower trailhead. The section of Road Canyon between the two ruin areas is pretty, but difficult to recommend if you have to make the 3.5 mile road walk back without a shuttle. Doing a through hike will take most groups 5-6 hours with a shuttle. Add 1.5-2 hours for the road walk if you only have one vehicle.
