Pretty Canyon. Ran into 2 German guys at the last rappels. Mystery Springs and the final drop were excellent. The only neoprene I used was a thin wetsuit shirt before entering Mystery Springs (short swimmer), and booties. The earlier narrows section was nice as well. The "lake" was completely dry. The non-technical descent into the canyon was loose. Took 4 of us experienced canyoneers 4:20 from car to bus.

Went with Hunter and Whitney two days after doing the Subway. We used Red Rock shuttles to get to the East Mesa trailhead. The descent down into the canyon from up on the rim is very steep and loose. We were making pretty good time thereafter but probably could have gone much quicker through the slot section if we set up with two ropes leapfrogging when the rappels are so close together. We got our rope temporarily stuck on the chock stone at Mystery Springs because we weren't careful on the rope pull. We didn't have a knife, which was stupid. In the end we were able to dislodge the rope without having to ascend or do anything else sketchy, but it was an important lesson learned. Still amazing though.

Fun canyon. I prefer canyons with a bit more climbing but it was still incredibly scenic and enjoyable. We did the car shuttle and it made for a much longer day than if we done the longer approach.

Dry as a bone until the spring. Only part worth seeing is the spring, but it is also quite the charmer!

Very fun and beautiful canyon. NPS gave us some vague instructions/map telling us not to descend into the canyon at the usual location because they were having erosion problems there. We tried to comply with the instructions and spent about an hour bushwhacking until we were cliffed out. Eventually just backtracked and dropped in where the beta said. The round trip loss of two hours meant we were rappelling into the Narrows after dark, but it worked out ok.

Estimated date of visit. Mystery canyon is incredible. Love it, but the hike in is brutal on the knees and thighs.

Overrated if you ask me. After reading Tom Jones' book I was stoked to hit this canyon. So many better options in the area if you ask me. There are some cool parts to this canyon.
