Date: 11/11/2023
Started our trip at 12:45 pm and got off the last rappel at 4:15 pm. Only 3 in our group, and we were all very experience so could move fast. About an hour hike from the bottom to the drop in for the canyon.
1 trip Na-gah Canyon - Capitol Reef
Date: 11/11/2023
Started early at 9:15 am, finished by 12:15 pm. Some of the slots at the top of the canyon can be down climbed. They look a little sketchy but are doable. Very little water, beautiful long, last rappel off of bolts.
1 trip Imlay Canyon (Sneak Route) - Zion Main Canyon
Date: 10/09/2023
Did the FULL Imlay, not just the sneak. Chris, his nephew Thomas and Nicole all joined the group. Sara was suppose to be there but was injured. Long day, couple tight narrow places to get through. Got stuck for a minute in a keeper pothole. Water level was high, jumped a number of places
1 trip Conundrum Canyon - North Wash
Date: 09/24/2023
Was a rather mellow canyon. No real downclimbs. One rappel on a man made log dam. it is fine, but not a real canyon experience.
1 trip3 trip Benson Creek - Brian Head
Date: 08/26/2023
Went to Benson Creek after we got rained out at Zion for Tammy's Heaps trip. We did Benson on the way home. Tammy Tucker and Ryan Thatcher were along for the journey. Hike is pretty steep, at the top we found a GeoCache. Water flow in canyon was perfect.

Went here with Laura on our Cedar City trip. short exploration as Laura doesn't like being underground
1 trip Stem School Canyon - Capitol Reef
Date: 06/25/2023
Sara and her boyfriend, Mark and Nicole, Rob and Cooper as well as Laura came with us on this adventure. Cooper had his harness belay loop start to rip on the big rappel in this canyon, we hauled him up to do emergency reassessments for his climbing belt. Laura almost fell backward into a pothole, but was able to avoid it. For the most part it was a very fun day.
1 trip The Wives - Capitol Reef
Date: 06/24/2023
Went to Wife 03, followed by Wife 05. Wife 03 is still the best of the wives canyons I have found. I did not really like wife 05. Many awkward starts. Laura freaked out when going down the first rappel of this canyon because she couldn't see the bottom.
1 trip SGR Canyon - South of Moab
Date: 05/20/2023
This is an all day excursion. We started at 7 am hiking toward the canyon bottom, then upclimbed up and around northernly until we reached the top of the butte and were looking down into Moab. Then we started heading south and west to the main canyon but it is very easy to drop into the wrong wash. We ended up finding a side chute and aggressively downclimbing a crack to get to the right canyon. Did the Crux, was not as tough as I expected. Got back to the car by 7pm and to Moab around 8:30 pm for pizza.

1 trip Heaps Canyon - Zion Main Canyon
Date: 10/22/2022
Dan's Birthday canyon. We started at 2 am, were at the top of the plateau at sunrise. At the second rappel, we found the rope had a core shot. Passed the knot on the 2nd rappel to the canyon floor. Got into the first narrows approximately 9 am. threw the second narrows by 11 am. Got stuck in the middle of the 3rd narrows, rescued by Dan. made it to the final rappel sequence by 3:15 pm. On the very last rappel, I got stuck on the knot and was exhausted - could not pass the knot. Dan and Sara did a rescue to lower me to the ground while the crowds cheered. Everyone got stuck on the knot but everyone else was able to self rescue and pass the knot

Date: 07/16/2022
Did this canyon again with my daughter Jennica, a friend Fabio and met up with Tammy Tucker along with about 4 of her coworkers. We wore wet suits, although I think I could have gone without. I put on my wet suit jacket after the 4th rappel. Lots of fun, no accidents. Tammy and I rigged, and leap frogged forward. Hike out was steep like usual.
1 trip Medieval Chamber - Moab
Date: 07/16/2022

1 trip3 trip Adams Canyon - Davis County
Date: 07/09/2022
Quick run up with Fabio, Phil and 3 newer canyoneers (Rob, Emilly and Seth) We started at 8 am, got to the waterfall by roughly 9:15. We ran the waterfall, but then Phil didn't like the webbing on the second rappel so he went back up to change it. I had not hear that he would be comming back up, so pulled the shorter rope on the first rappel. We had to toss the rope back up to him to descent to the second. Only to find that Seth had also followed Phil up the rock face for a second time. I grabbed the short rope again and went to do a second run with Seth. Ahhh, communication
1 trip Crumbling Canyon - Spanish Fork Canyon

Part of the big trip we took to do Poe
1 trip Behunin Canyon - Zion Main Canyon

Did Hog #3 Razorback with Gus, Dan, Chad, Alysen, and Jordan

1 trip Arch (Johnson) Canyon - Snow Canyon
Date: 02/06/2022
Fun little canyon, water was not too deep. Stuck a rope on the second to last rappel when the falling rope looped around a rock on the pull. Was able to up climb and free the stuck rope. Fabio rappelled the second rap in his neoprene socks.
1 trip Cherry Canyon - Virgin River Gorge
Date: 01/15/2022
Did with Mac, Bill G, Mark H, Zeke H and Phil C. Good canyon, at the last rappel went off a knot block
1 trip The Wives - Capitol Reef
Date: 12/11/2021
Went to Wife 01, Wife 03 and TOTGA. Really liked Wife 03, the rappel is spectacular, with a nice slope to the point where you go free hanging. Wife 01 was fine, found webbing for rappel or backup on several spots that could be down climbed. TOTGA is tough! And tight. The first down climb was very intense, and the wall is very crumbly. I was first down, was showered by rock and pebbles as the rest of the team descended behind me.
1 trip2 trip Island In The Sky - Snow Canyon
Date: 12/04/2021
A lot of route finding and up climbs. Almost got stuck in the chimney. There is an alternate route west from the chimney section. And we saw a possible other route from the nose of the south most section.
1 trip Repeater Jr Canyon - Lost Spring
Date: 10/11/2021
Very quick canyon. Can be rappelled for the first 70 ft or so then down climbed the rest of the way if you don't mind the height and penalty point associated with them. Really the rappel/downclimb is the only thing to this canyon as soon as you land the technical part is over. Good warm up, would not really bring newbies here. but if in the area and want a quick adventure... Note, use the juniper tree above Road Trip Ryan's suggestion of a solution pocket as the anchor. It is more solid than the hueco.
1 trip MMI Canyon - Arches National Park
Date: 10/11/2021
MMI was an interesting canyon. I ended up replacing a lot of the webbing found in this canyon. The first rappel could be done as a down climb, although there are extreme penalty points, so a backup is recommended. At the boulder, the lamar pulled the cord and rapped off the newly replaced anchor here. the 2nd or 3rd anchor (the small one about 15 ft in length) can also be bested by a partner capture and some down climbing skills. The mess we found at the last rappel was classic adding webbing beyond anything serviceable. We completely tore down the mess and rebuild it, making it a courtesy anchor and extending it to the edge. The last rappel is the best, 100 ft and a beautiful view.
1 trip Lost and Found Canyon - Arches National Park
Date: 10/10/2021
Fun canyon with some little slot down climbs after the 2nd rappel. Got stuck behind a mammoth group from the Wasatch Mountain Club, (18 people in the cluster!!!) and was very backed up. Not happy with the WMC. First rappel is nice but nothing special. Second rappel was down to a log, followed by an easy down climb about 18 ft off the ground. But the third rappel is the one! All rappels were bolted with good webbing when I went on it. This is definitely a trade route canyon
1 trip Not Tierdrop Canyon - Arches National Park
Date: 09/20/2021
Done early morning, with an eye to doing more canyons the same day. Started at 8:15 am and finished about 10:30 am. Went with Mac and Erin. Used a new 300' rope and got a sneak rappel in at the finish. Fun fast canyon - but my favorite is still U-Turn
1 trip Big Horn Canyon - Arches National Park
Date: 09/20/2021
With Mac and Erin, lots of fun but a hike in the heat to get to the top of the butte.
1 trip3 trip Lisa Falls - Wasatch Front
Date: 08/27/2021
Went with Mac Brubaker, Saori Barlow, and Gustavo Carillo
1 trip Egypt 1 Canyon - Escalante
Date: 08/06/2021
First time through
1 trip Wonderland Canyon - Capitol Reef
Date: 07/03/2021
Water full. Went with Gustavo, Nate, Gage and Curtis. Had an early start. we dropped a rope bag in the one deep pool and Gage volunteered to dive to retrieve it. Curtis offered to buy him dinner after he got the rope back back from the depths. Lots of fun, good problems to solve. One semi-keeper pothole near the end.
1 trip U-Turn Canyon - Arches National Park
Date: 06/10/2021
Took the Kerrybrook younger YM through this canyon. Ryan Jones and Gary Hansen were the adult supervisors. Ryan told me that the final rappel was "life changing" for him.
1 trip Pool Arch Canyon - Moab
Date: 06/10/2021
Took the Kerrybrook older youth through this canyon with Alysen and Jordan as my seconds. Lots of youth, it took us from 2:30 pm to 10 pm to finish. Got back to camp at 11 for dinner. We moved efficiently for a big group. Met Dave Armesian and another adult leader in the canyon with a group of YM from their ward at the first rappel - the big one. We were able to bypass them and continue down canyon. Found a group of youth (from a family reunion) who were running and leaping off a ramp into a sand pit. I yelled at them to be safe in the canyon. Actually I yelled that I would punch the next person who jumped in the face, and that I was not going to carry their broken asses out of the canyon. Their group leader came and talked with me at the next rappel. At the third rappel, down on the ground at the exit was Scott Ballard. He was waiting for the rest of his YM, after splitting them into 2 groups. We efficiently got everyone down and pulled the ropes while it was still light but it was a close thing. We hiked back to the vehicles in the dark.
1 trip Pleiades Canyon - Moab
Date: 06/09/2021
Started this in the afternoon but maybe a little too late. Alysen, Jordan, Mark, Chad, Craig and myself all were looking for a good escape from the heat. We drove to the trailhead with our summer clothing on, not realizing that the coolness of the mountain along with the frigid water would be such a factor. We only brought rain slickers, and some of us like Jordan & Alysen forgot those as well. The tempurature at the start of the hike was 69º. It wasn't bad until after we went through the second waterfall, when we entered the overhanding cave like structure. Mark headed down at the 4th waterfall/rappel to prepare. Alysen was on a large boulder structure (the size of a good sized house) where the rope was rigged. She asked if she could rappel it rather than follow us as we had all hiked around it to a launch pad. I said sure, and she attached herself to it, then she slid off the boulder and immediately slid down the rope unattached! I don't really know how but her rappel device was still on the rope at the top of the boulder. We ran to her and check her for injuries. The rope was wet and slippery - so her hands were not burned. She stood up and began to ball as the magnitude of what almost happened hit her. Luckily she was uninjured, but we still needed to get her and the rest of us down. I talked to her, held her and then put her on the rope to continue down. She was able to go through the funnel to the bottom of the last rappel, where the mist and cold put a sheen of ice on everything. Everyone but myself went down as I was LAMAR. I followed and pulled the rope were I could see the Alysen was not it good shape. She was going into hypothermic shock. Mark insisted that she rappel tandem with him and he went on the last rappel first, then got her off to the side, out of the mist from the waterfalls and started feeding her and put an emergency blanket around her. The rest of us, shivering and half frozen followed as soon as possible. It was a close call, one I will not forget. Luckily we all made it out, were able to warm up on the hike back out to the cars and were grateful that we were able to survive the experience to learn from it.
1 trip Cluster Canyon (aka Entrajo) - Moab
Date: 06/09/2021
Explored this canyon, found a guide group ahead of us. Guides name is Simon. Met Hal and Arlene from Boston, Mass. and their two sons. Arlene jumped in the first pothole into wet sand and dislocated her patella. Built a haul system to lift Arlene from the pothole, my first in wilderness rescue! Afterwards, we continued down the canyon. pool at the end was very cool and refreshing.
1 trip Cluster Canyon (aka Entrajo) - Moab
Date: 05/23/2021
Walked the route, found an alternate rappel for the last rap - cleaner pull than the last 2-stage drop. Water was chest deep and cold.
1 trip Pool Arch Canyon - Moab
Date: 05/22/2021
Went with friends to explore and revisit Rock of Ages. Found the end rappel a bit different than before, but not too challenging. We used a modified 2 stage rappel to get to the final bolted anchor and rap down to the bottom. The weather was beautiful, overcast with the occasional light misty rain.
1 trip Bow and Arrow Canyon - Potash Road
Date: 05/22/2021
This is just a beautiful canyon, not a lot of down climbing or challenges but a pleasant hike and some big rappels. Enjoyed the afternoon with cloud cover. Great for a beginner canyon with a little oversight.
1 trip Bow and Arrow Canyon - Potash Road
Date: 05/08/2021
Quick run up for a Birthday Canyon. The really big drop can be done with a 65m rope, This rappel can be bypassed if you go canyon right, downclimb a big and then anchor off a tree for a much smaller rappel.
1 trip Heaps Canyon - Zion Main Canyon
Date: 04/03/2021
Started at 3:30 am, Reached the western top of the plateau at 7:00 am. 10:20 am we were at the first Narrows section and suited up. Water very cold, pushing ice and walking on snow in the second narrows. Third set of Narrow very long. Many, many log obstacles. Wore a dry suit, which leaked at the neck gasket. Reached the final-up climb for the last 500 foot rappel at 7:15 pm where we switched back out of water clothing into dry apparel. Final rope pull at 11:20 pm. Approximately 20 hours car to car. By the time we finished I was exhausted.

Date: 10/17/2020
I have hiked up to the waterfall many times but was shocked to hear you could rappel it. Surprisingly fun waterfall. The hike up is a bit long. Went up with Gustavo Carrillo and Craig Caldwell. At the base of the waterfall the scrabble up and over was a little sketchy. Waterflow was pretty good considering it was October with a very dry summer. Making our way thru the falls got us wet but not soaked. At the base, looking up at the start of the climb, Craig said to me "Dave, why do I let you keep talking me into doing this things?" After we all reached the bottom and were putting our gear away Craig remarked "Dave, I am so glad I keep letting you talk me into doing these things."
1 trip Constrychnine Canyon - Poison Spring
Date: 10/11/2020
Great Canyon, Love the rappels. Scary good down climbs. In October it was bone dry. Went with Jennica, Chad LaDow, Long John Horton, Brady Koehler and Mark Hartner. For the third rappel, there is a big (boulder) chockstone with webbing on it for a bomber anchor, forget a deadman's use the chockstone.
1 trip Slideanide Canyon - Poison Spring
Date: 10/10/2020
First Rappel at the beginning is it. After that, it is all down climbs. there are some spicy areas that should have a rope backup but are for the most part very exciting and doable.

Date: 10/03/2020
Part of the NorthWash Outfitters Class run by Jared Hillhouse. 4 students in the group, Jared had 2 assistants helping him for a total of 7 of us. Started at 9 am, finished by 1 pm. We moved pretty smoothly. Used a sand trap as well as a hook in the hook section. slipped in a small pothole (again) but no injury. In roughly the same area (but not same pothole) What is it about Woody that I cannot pass thru without a fall?

Date: 07/27/2020
the Chains off the rock for the first real rappel were very hard to find. We started at noon and probably spend an hour looking for them. we found a group of bolts that allowed us to safely get down about 40 feet to the cliffside where the chains lay. BIIIG rappel to the sand at the bottom. Then 3 hours of slowly shuffling thru the river. Flow was approx 50 cfs. Got back to the car at 4pm. No wetsuit needed as it was pretty warm.
