pool below R2. Nice enough |

tried going up Short End of the Stick which is an up climb to get to the top of Shillelagh, but I ran out of juice. I could not get past the first up climb/potshot ascend. I had already done three canyons today in 96° heat, so that will be my excuse. perhaps next time there is supposed to be some beta on bluugnome so I will look that up. |

North/Left fork. OK, not that exciting, somehow only did two raps. Not even sure where another one would be. |

LF 3:20 hrs DRY - Hernanns, Lottie, Tom and Laura. extra time to LF about 15-20 mins. R1 a bit awkward over lip, then open. we used courtesy and pulled from shelf below (above the pot hole/R2). Slide into pothole is fine, but first timers may be uncomfortable without a spot. R2 slabby, easy. Fun DC/handline (I DC'd with no problem). Lots of 5-10' DCs. opens, then tightens again. wider slots. |

RF 2:45hrs DRY - Hernanns, Lottie, Bela. liked the shorter approach, liked the raps. first was easy slab to a slight open to a shelf (no prob with courtesy for beginners). Nice shorter/tighter slots (compared to LF), Sorta CRP for R1 anchor, another CRP for R2. again easy with a courtesy, nice long chute to a dry pothole. beautiful tall canyons after R2, with some lovely textured tighter slots. opens up but tightens up again (like the RF does as well). |

Left/west fork with Lottes, Judy, Martin and myself. Great shorter canyon- more open with some shallow slots to enjoy. raps early with a few downclimbs/partner assists to keep it enjoyable. |

Left fork. Back-to-back rappels of 27 and 66 feet, respectively. Not as scenic as the right fork. Fun short canyon. |
11/05/2022
Fantastic 100-foot rappel. Several sections of beautiful narrows and fun down climbing. |
10/22/2022
Did this with Kylie, Kate, Rob. 2 hrs car to car, unplanned afternoon after Stegosaur went faster than expected (camped at the Blarney TH). What a surprise! We loved it. Started slow and then got excellent starting at the second rappel. Extended start at the first but good courtesy rigging. Second one is getting lots of rope grooves so we did releasable rigging (CEM), it worked great! Lots of fun playing in the narrows & downclimbs, went on longer than expected. |

Right Fork. Went with Juan, Alf, Jeff, and Collin. Great time going through this canyon. Juan had to ascend because he forgot his backpack on the large rap. Good intro stemming. Nothing hard, overall enjoyable canyon and fun raps! |

West Shelieghlegh - started at 1pm. Finished at 4 pm. Mark Hartner, Jordan and Alysen Guadagnin came along. Long walk across the plateau to get to the wash that enters into this canyon. Found a sunning rattlesnake at the bottom slot area (about 3 feet wide with lots of sand underneath), but passed it while it was torpid. |

Down left fork and then back up right to the bottom of the last rappel Free rappel to the left has an abrupt transition. The out and back to the bottom of the last rappel of the right fork was great fun. |

Soloed both forks. The 99' rappel is a two stage single rappel or two separate rappels. Went to Blarney four days before and saw a cow on the cliff high above the other side of the highway and saw it in the same place when I came back to do Shillelagh. |

Day One: Right fork. Reasonable approach, straight up the slick rock. The canyon was muddy and had a lot of knee-deep pools of water. It was very narrow and v-shaped with a lot of stemming and down climbing. Not dog friendly. Day Two: Left fork. Same approach, only we had to walk an extra 15 minutes or so west. This canyon was much drier and open, proving to be more enjoyable for everyone. The rappels had awkward starts, but were manageable once you got going. With how easy the canyon is following the rappels, I would do this fork of the canyon again. Temperatures were fine -- a long-sleeved shirt was sufficient for most of the day. |
